Our Great Danes, Saving Lives as Canine Blood Donors
At our kennel, we believe that the impact our dogs have should extend beyond the litters they produce. That’s why all of our adult dogs—once they reach two years of age and meet the necessary health criteria—are registered canine blood donors. Given the size and gentle nature of the breed, they are ideally suited to this important role.
Blood donation in dogs is just as vital as it is in humans. When a dog is critically ill, injured, or undergoing surgery, a blood transfusion can be the difference between life and death. Canine blood donors play a key role in emergency and specialist veterinary care, and our dogs have helped save countless lives across the UK by providing this life-saving support.
We work closely with veterinary blood banks to ensure that all our donor dogs are healthy, relaxed, and well-prepared for the process. Donations are carried out by professionals in safe, comfortable environments, and our dogs are always given lots of positive reinforcement, cuddles, and treats during and after their appointments.
Knowing that our dogs contribute to the wellbeing of others—even those they’ll never meet—is something we’re incredibly proud of. It reflects our values as a breeder: compassion, responsibility, and giving back wherever we can.
We encourage all our new puppy owners to support blood donation with their Great Dane when the dog is old enough as this vital service literally helps to save the lives of vulnerable dogs in desperate need of blood.
